Locksmith FAQs — A-1 Locksmith Shop, Brownwood TX

Common questions about locksmith services, emergency lockouts, re-keying, key cutting, and commercial hardware. Have a question not listed here? Call 325-643-4137.

Emergency Lockouts

What should I do if I am locked out of my home?

Call us at 325-643-4137. We will pick up, get your address, and give you a straight estimate on arrival time. In the meantime, stay somewhere safe — especially at night.

Do you do emergency lockout service outside business hours?

We accept emergency calls outside regular hours. Call the main number and we will do our best to help. We will be honest with you about our availability rather than promise a response time we cannot keep.

Will you damage my door or lock during a lockout?

Our goal is always non-destructive entry — opening the lock without drilling or damaging hardware. In the rare cases where a lock must be drilled, we will tell you before we do it and explain why.

Re-Keying and Key Duplication

What is the difference between re-keying and replacing locks?

Re-keying changes the internal pins so the lock requires a new key — the hardware stays in place. Lock replacement means installing a brand-new lock. Re-keying is faster and usually costs less. We recommend it when the hardware is in good shape and you want to change who has a working key.

When should I rekey my locks?

When you move into a new home or rental, after a break-in or attempted entry, after a roommate or employee leaves, or after losing a key. It is a fast, inexpensive way to regain control of your security.

Can you cut a key without the original?

In some cases yes, by impression or by reading the lock code. Bring the lock cylinder to our shop at 1220 Austin Avenue and we can assess your options.

Do you cut transponder or chip keys for vehicles?

We cut keys for residential and commercial applications. For automotive chip or transponder keys, call ahead with your vehicle year, make, and model and we will let you know if we can help.

Commercial Locksmith

Do you install commercial locks for businesses?

Yes. We install and service commercial-grade locks, deadbolts, and access hardware for businesses throughout Brown County and surrounding areas.

Can you set up a master key system?

Yes. Master key systems let different keyholders access different areas of a property. We design and implement systems for offices, apartment complexes, and commercial facilities.

Do you install panic bars and exit devices?

Yes. We supply and install panic bar hardware for commercial exits that require code-compliant egress devices. This is required in many commercial occupancies by Texas building codes.
